Project Description

MICK ATKINSON

Social Worker

Mick Atkinson is a qualified Social worker with over 25 years’ experience of driving change for children and families. His work experience has spanned the Statutory, Voluntary and Community Sectors and involved both operational management and strategic planning. He has particular expertise in children and young people’s mental health and the effect of adverse childhood experience on emotional development and resilience. As Vice Chair of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health coalition he has considerable experience of partnership working, campaigning, policy and external affairs.

This skill set led to working closely with government as a member of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Taskforce who recently produced Future in Mind. His ongoing commitment is for better prevention, access and support for young people, particularly in school. Mick is also a Director of the Children’s Outcomes Research Consortium (CORC), which is the UK’s leading membership organisation that collects and uses evidence to improve children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing and a Governor of the Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital School.
