Warren provided training for safeguarding officers from our member Clubs within the English Football League. The training was impactful, helping delegates to understand adverse childhood experiences, what effect they can have on individuals throughout their lives. Warren’s knowledge in the subject and passion for his work was evident making the training informative and interactive for all. We look forward to working with Warren again in the future.

Alexandra Richards - Safeguarding Manager, EFL

It would have been difficult for any member of our staff not to have taken away the invaluable reminder concerning the importance of the relationship whilst working with children and to be actively mindful of resilience during their involvement with anyone who may have experienced adversity.
Warren Larkin’s open and down-to-earth approach could not have failed to inspire Rotherham’s CYPS staff, so it was not a surprise when our workforce collectively expressed precisely how precious these quintessential messages were to the work of frontline professionals and how timely and utterly motivating Warren’s session on ACEs had been.

Christopher Dancer - Quality, Learning & Development Training Business Co-ordinator, Children’s & Young People’s Service, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Warren’s ACES awareness training sessions were engaging and inspiring; he is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and this was really reflected in the delivery and content. We received positive feedback from staff about how relevant the sessions were to their work and lives, how much they learned and how much more they wanted to learn as their interest has been peaked. I also received some exciting proposals from staff who were inspired by the session and want to help steer developments in how our approach can be genuinely trauma-informed. The sessions have been a great jumping off point for us and have really got everyone excited about the improvements and developments we can make.

Helen Ioannou - Service Director, Mind in Bradford

Thank you so much Warren for taking the time to talk to Academy for Social Justice members at our Adversity, Trauma and Resilience online seminars. Your extensive knowledge of trauma informed practice was very impressive and your passion and drive to make a difference was clear for all to see. In fact, your talk was so engaging our delegates didn’t want the seminars to end!  We had close to 450 delegates in total and the Academy has over 6000 cross sector members who can all access the seminar recordings so your knowledge can be shared far and wide. Initial feedback has been excellent with delegates asking to continue the dialogue on the Academy’s hub which is brilliant! Thank you once again and I hope we can work together in the future.

Janet Cullinan, Head of Academy for Social Justice

Warren’s work for the Strategic Partnership Board across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has been excellent. He has stimulated the group to understand the key issues around the long-term impact of childhood trauma and has helped us to start to develop our system wide response. His knowledge, enthusiasm and charisma have really galvanised a diverse group to realise the importance of this issue and to prioritise as the key development underpinning all of our work as a Board. This is a fabulous achievement and has probably set the course of our work for the next 20 years and more.

Paul Hindson, Police and Crime Commissioner for LLR

Dear Warren, I just wanted to say how meaningful I found your training session to the Parole Board. I felt it cut deep into some of the most important issues we need to think about for people in Prison. For a long time I have thought more of the focus should be on trauma, adverse childhood experiences and how to help people move on/cope with their often disturbing upbringings. Your presentation made this sound possible and that there are many things we can do as individuals within Criminal Justice system to make this possible. I felt genuinely inspired. Thank you. Fiona Ainsworth.

Fiona Ainsworth, Chartered Forensic Psychologist, Parole Board

Working with Warren has been a fantastic experience, personally and professionally, and he’s brought his authentic humanity as well as informed professionalism to an essential development for us at Kooth. He has helped us on our journey to becoming a trauma informed organisation, and has been integral at all stages, delivering fantastic, engaging training that has had amazing feedback from our large team, as well as enabling and starting conversations across the organisation; difficult conversations that need to be had about such an important area. We are thrilled to have Warren alongside us for this journey, and we continue to be excited by his presence, professionalism, personality, and charm, in engaging all areas of our business to ultimately support, safeguard, and provide the best possible recovery to those who have suffered trauma and adverse childhood experiences, including amazing support for our workforce. We couldn’t be where we are without Warren, and his ongoing support is already valued and appreciated. On a personal note, I always look forward to meeting with Warren and find his interest, knowledge, expertise, and passion hugely infectious (in a really good way!), and enabling difficult conversations to happen so organically.

Dr Larkin’s ‘introduction to Adverse Childhood Experiences’ session is absolutely essential for all teachers with responsibility for pastoral care and/or safeguarding children and young people. The content is relevant, current and provides an extremely interesting insight into what ACEs are, how ACEs might manifest and offers some practical strategies to promote best outcomes. Dr Larkin’s expert delivery is clear, evidenced-based and provides real-life examples to support the content. At all times, attendees felt ‘held’ and supported as we discussed trauma and its impact.

Jeff Kayne, Deputy Head Pastoral & Designated Safeguarding Lead

Warren Larkin & Associates have provided over 20 sessions on ACEs and Trauma Informed Practice for the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership. These sessions have been extremely popular and the take up has been incredible.

It has helped to raise awareness of this topic across many partner agencies within Hertfordshire and will no doubt lead to better outcomes for children and families.

Liz Peters, Business Manager, Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership

“Many thanks to Warren for the series of ACES workshops he ran for the East Midlands Prevent Team. The sessions were engaging for staff and practically based. Warren worked hard to understand the context of the team’s work and shaped his inputs accordingly. Feedback from the team was universally positive with most reporting they felt more confident in identifying people who had experienced ACES and then engaging in professional conversations with them”

East Midlands Prevent Team

“I recently attended the Young Minds “Addressing Adversity” Conference in Birmingham and thoroughly enjoyed your presentation, it made a huge impression on me. It gave me a number of new ideas to consider and also went some way to confirm my recent thoughts around Personality Disorder being a form of PTSD”

Grace Paige, Student Mental Health Nurse

“It was a pleasure to work with you on October 10th 2017, you delivered keynote presentation to over eighty professionals in Bradford during the Resilience – Adverse Childhood Experiences ( ACE) Seminar and you delivered key messages on the impact of ACE.

Your creative and engaging style set the tone requiring a sophisticated and compassionate response, to build resilience when trust has been broken, with an importance to work collaboratively to safeguard those most at risk, despite the current public sector challenges.

As Chair of the event the most memorable was the introduction of the REACh Model and its approach which is successfully implemented with positive outcomes

I would have no hesitation to recommend you Warren to anyone looking to develop the ACE model”

Yasmin Khan, Director, Staying Put

“Dr Warren Larkin has supported post-graduate education in mental health at the University of Sunderland for many years, providing enthusiastic and engaging delivery around working with Chronic Psychological Trauma. Students have repeatedly feedback that his knowledgeable and practical expertise has given them something worthwhile to take back to their practice and we now look forward to welcoming his contribution to BSc Public Health at the University of Sunderland”

Clare Brizzolara, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader | MSc in Psychological Approaches for Complex Mental Health Issues MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Recovery in Psychosis and Complex Mental Health University of Sunderland

“We had the privilege of welcoming Dr Warren Larkin as the key note speaker at the recent (Jan 18) Stockport Safeguarding Adult and Children Boards joint development day.

His session really set the scene as we worked on defining our ‘All Age Neglect Strategy’ later in the day. He presented an overview of the evidence base relating to Adverse Childhood Experience, the role of Routine Enquiry and a flavour of Trauma Informed Schools.

There was a great deal of interest in the room and a lot of what he said resonated with practitioners working on the front line with vulnerable children and adults who find themselves in complex situations –‘Excellent speaker – knows how to hold the floor and keep the interest’.

There was a lot of interest from schools colleagues in relation to Trauma Informed Schools – ‘I will be in contact to hear and learn more’. Participants commented that it ‘stimulated them to think differently. Is this a speaker I would recommend – most certainly”

Gill Frame, Independent Chair Stockport Safeguarding Adult and Children Boards

“Dr Warren Larkin’s presentation at the inaugural South West ACES conference for system leaders led was a pivotal moment in capturing and inspiring hearts and minds to view childhood vulnerability through the lens of the ACEs Approach.

We have benefitted from Warren’s extensive experience as a clinician, local leader, academic and national advisor.

Through these insights we have developed a new South West network of leaders and practitioners committed work in a trauma informed way, a fresh perspective in reducing drug related deaths and plans for a better understanding of perinatal mental health.

Other work continues.  Thank you Warren”

Jan Bond, Health and Wellbeing Programme Manager, Public Health England South West

“We have been grappling with how to integrate strands of complex needs work in Devon for some time; looking for core values and other unifying principles to help professionals from across sectors to find common ground. Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma Informed Practice have emerged as frameworks of interest, and yet it has been difficult to know how to implement them in a meaningful way to improve our outcomes across the board.

Warren was invited to CoLab Exeter to help us understand the power and potential of these approaches, and explore as a cross-sector group, how we might apply them to one area of practice in particular – namely our work with women in the Justice system. In a one day workshop Warren brought these methods to life, by offering his insights and experience, and presenting complex material in a language and format that was accessible and exciting to everyone. The energy in the room was fantastic, and aside from receiving glowing feedback for the quality of the event from colleagues across this and a neighbouring county, we have also received requests and suggestions around piloting this work.

So all in all this day was a fantastic return on our investment, and something we would highly recommend”

Amanda Kilroy, Director of Social Innovation, CoLab Exeter

“I had never come across ACEs before this training session and had no understanding of either the concept or the damage these experiences can cause the person as a youngster and in their later life.

The session was enthralling and on leaving the session I was absolutely blown away by the new knowledge I had learnt, the session was probably one of the best I have ever been to, so thank you.”

Steven Moore, East of England Ambulance Service

“Dr Warren Larkin provided a number of training sessions to Safeguarding Officers in our Professional Clubs during February 2020.

The sessions were engaging, informative and evidence based and increased all delegates knowledge in relation to Adverse Childhood Experiences.

As an organisation we are much more informed about ACE’s its impact on young people and how we can alter our practice to better support the welfare and safeguarding of young players in the future.

I would highly recommend booking training with Warren Larkin Associates, we are already discussing future sessions for our organisation with him.”

Alex Richards, Safeguarding Manager for the English Football League

Thank you for delivering introduction to trauma informed practice sessions to Police Officers and staff members in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.

This training will help us develop our service to be more informed about trauma, adverse childhood experiences and resilience. This means we are better equipped to respond to people in communities, better at listening and understanding people, thinking more about people than process and looking out for trauma in ourselves and our colleagues.

As our partner agencies are all on a trauma informed journey, this will help us communicate across the partnership with a shared knowledge, understanding and language.

I have had a number of attendees approach me in the corridor after the training, commenting on how useful and impactive they found the training. I’m also aware that a number of people have felt empowered to speak about their own experiences of trauma in the sessions, for the first time.

Thanks again

Insp 15 Dan Hayes, Calderdale Partnerships Inspector
“We were excited to have Warren deliver a webinar on “An Introduction to the Science of Childhood Adversity, Trauma & Resilience” to members of the Sir Norman Lamb Coalition for Young People.  Warren presents vital concepts in an accessible way and he is a delight to listen to.  Our members felt privileged to have the opportunity to hear from someone with such obvious depth of knowledge, expertise and experience.  His work is relevant to our focus on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in Norfolk. They will benefit from the key message at the heart of this webinar – that we need to move away from trying to work out what’s wrong with people, and instead be curious about what’s happened to people, as the first step to offering trauma-informed support.  Thank you, Warren for such an excellent webinar.  The feedback we have had has been incredibly positive.”
Sir Norman Lamb, .
